The Forbidden City
When the Capitol of China moved to Beijing in the 15th c, the emperor built a city of 999 rooms. There were 5 main entry gates, and only the center one was to be used by the emperor. It became a museum in the 1920's after Puyi-the last emperor of China- was moved to Manchuko to be the puppet emperor of the Japanese.

Thank you to the Freeman Foundation! Traveling on the Silk Road this summer with Karen Kane from the Weatherhead Institute of Columbia University! Already packed two bottles with battery operated fans and spriitzer bottles. Turpan (near the Taklakmakan desert) goes up to 120 degrees in July. When will I be there? July!
